Champaign, OH:  Take It Easy!

Take it easy, take it easy
Don’t let the sound of your own wheels
Make you crazy…(Take It Easy-The Eagles)

It’s what we want for you…to just take it easy, let us do all of the work, ease your mind…all you have to do is order from our little local market!

This is the time of year that gets super busy and super crazy! You want to ease into the months of summer but first you have to pass GO at lightening speed! End of the year school obligations, graduations, sports, figuring out summer plans, transitioning to kids being home…just crazy times!!

You worry about all of that while we worry about taking care of you! Sneak off, take a bit of time, all to yourself, start your shopping for the week, make your selections, and then, voila! We have it all ready for you on Thursday! You shopped, you did it locally, you did it with ease…

Because, in the whole scheme of things, don’t you deserve to take it easy?

Today is Tuesday, the market will close, tonight, at 8pm. We can only make it easy on you if you let us:)

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Fisher's Produce Tulsa:  Ordering Open

Hello Friends,

Sorry for the late posting. We will leave orders open until noon on Tuesday. But don’t expect the first carrots of the season and the first open market strawberries to stay in stock very long!

This is an A-week delivery with delivery to South Tulsa. Brookside Market is now in session, so we will be in the Whole Foods parking lot from 7:30-11:00am and then to the Spirit Event center from 12:00-12:30. This is earlier than we had originally planned on, but the market times have changed this season. For those meeting us in South Tulsa, please email and confirm if this will work for you. If not, please let us know as well, and we will make arrangements.

This week’s CSA share will likely include:

Lettuce
Spinach
Cabbage
Carrots
Strawberries

We look forward to seeing you all. Tell your friends to come out and shop at the brookside market!

MARKET TUTORIAL
Need some helpful hints to shop our Market? Professional Videographer and Market Volunteer Jeff Yentzer has put together a great 8-minute Market Tutorial that everyone can learn from. Check it out and then share it with anyone who asks about us! Thanks so much, Jeff, for your dedication to helping us succeed within the St. Petersburg Community.

MARKET FARE
You are going to notice a lovely variety of eggplant this week. Also, those who have been inquiring on availability of seedlings will be pleased to see nice offerings for your summer garden. Grow your own summer foods and enjoy the convenience of a backyard harvest! We’ll have offerings all summer long for whatever you don’t grow. That’s a great partnership we can form to insure that you get FRESH, high quality produce for your family table.

PRODUCE & PRODUCT FEEDBACK
I am always seeking feedback from customers on produce, products, quality, packaging etc. You are encouraged to contact me with any comments even if you think they are minor. All of them impact the image we want to create for our Market (our little piece of paradise) here in St. Petersburg. The sooner you contact me, the quicker I can address any concerns, process any refunds, and reset the course for success for our growers, our Market, and most of all make you happy!

IS FRUIT IMPORTANT TO YOU?
You’ll probably notice there isn’t any fresh fruit on the Market this week. Lately, there is barely any demand for it and the Market has been taking a loss. Let me know if/how important fruit is for you? I am at a loss as to what our customers want me to provide. Apples and pears sell really well when I can get them domestically but most of them are imported right now. Also, Winn Dixie had great prices on organic apples that I can’t beat. Check them out!

WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST CUSTOMERS!
Once you have submitted your order, if in doubt about what you owe, you can always confirm what you have been charged for by checking your account history and viewing your most current invoice. Instructions on how to do that are on our Q&A page under the question entitled Since you don’t provide an invoice with delivery, how do I know what I owe? Also, since your vegetables are picked fresh within 24 hours of delivery, they should be lasting for WEEKS in your refrigerator. When you accept delivery, please take a few minutes to inspect your order to protect your vegetables from unnecessary spoilage. Lastly, it is imperative that you understand our policy on Unclaimed Orders found on our Q&A page. When you make a purchase you are agreeing to abide by this policy.

Northeast Georgia Locally Grown:  Locally Grown Availability for May 14th, 2014

Hey Local Food Lovers,

This is a late message this week but you’ve still got at least 6 hours of ordering time so it’s still worth it for me to give a few interesting updates.

First, I want to welcome some new volunteers to Locally Grown. With the Gainesville Market kick off just 3 more weeks away we are needing to recruit new volunteers both to help down there and to help in Clarkesville since I’ll be helping getting the new location started. Chrissy Garrison helped us out at Clarkesvillle last week and will be volunteering every other week. She joins Lynn Mack who volunteers on the other weeks. Both will be helping Teri Parker who is being promoted to Clarkesville Market Manager starting on June 6th. Teri knows the system as well as Chuck and I do now, and she’s been a steady and strong volunteer for over four years now which is impressive. Everybody let her know how much you appreciate her help because it’s key to our expansion.

Andrew Linker who will be help us co-manage the Gainesville Location will be helping us this week in Clarkesville to get to know our system and the flow of farmer drop offs and customer pickups before we get started down there in a few weeks. We’ll also experiment with using our new shelves and pop up boxes to make sure that it’s quick and efficient. Anybody know where we can find Erasable Markers? We’ll be investing in some of those soon too.

We already have 6 customers signed up for the new Gainesville Location. That’s kind of exciting. In the 3 weeks we have left we’ll be sending e-mails to the master gardeners, Brenau staff and faculty and History Center members to encourage more signups. Our goal is to have at least 40 people signed up and at least 20 customers on the first drop off day.

I haven’t studied the listing this week so can’t adequately plug anything new but I can say that we had leeks and kohlrabi for dinner last night (with some pasta alfredo) that was incredible. My wife steamed the peeled kohlrabi then cut it up and sauteed it in just a splash of water with some chicken bouillon and some onions and olive oil. Yum, Yum, Yum!

One last thing. Be sure and check Locally Grown several times between Friday and Monday as farmers are adding items continously. There have been many weeks where carrots were sold out on Saturday then on Monday I found yes, they are back again.

Ok, get your orders in and we’ll see you this Wednesday.

EAT WELL,
Justin in Habersham
and
Chuck in Rabun

Old99Farm Market:  Albert Bates quote, May 11 2014

Here’s a link from one of my fav permaculture guys, Albert Bates. www.peaksurfer.blogspot.ca is his blog, which is worth bookmarking. But the quote that caught my eye was this:

The problem we are addressing … at its most general layer, is an observable imbalance in Earth’s climate systems that is an existential threat to all of us.
We attribute this imbalance, now calibrated with a high degree of certainty, to the corruption of “normal” atmospheric chemistry with a superabundance of waste elements from the biological processes of a single, invasive, overly fecund species, you know, the two-legged ones. Since this species shows no sign of going away before it causes irreparable harm to its host, we few revolutionary cells, acting as antibodies in the greater system, are working towards effective and timely mitigation by finding ways to reduce and reverse the damage wrought by our deluded or disengaged brethren [ig: thatw would be youall].

Read more of it if you are intrigued by his solution set, which is decidedly low tech and local. the one he discusses here is about making biochar, basically charcoal, from waste wood and improving garden soils etc. with it. We could all be doing that this spring, with all the deadfalls from the icestorm.

GFM :  What's Growing?

Good Afternoon!

The weather is certianly warming up! But, it looks like our temps will take a little bit of a dip later this week. That is fine for me, and all the plants growing. It will be good to get a taste of spring this week.

Don’t forget, pick up is now at the Market on Saturdays, from 8 am to 12 PM. The Market is located at the Greene County Fairgrounds, under the livestock pavilion. Don’t take a chance on your favorite vendor NOT being at the market. Place your orders online to ensure delivery on Saturdays. And pick up your extras while there.

Martin's Farmstand:  Asparagus tips

The online farmers market is open for orders. I just came in from cutting the first 100 lbs of asparagus of the season. It feels good to have some warm sun on the back and to smell springtime fragrances.
We will be opening the stand here at the farm at 3 pm today. After today we will be open 10 am- 6 pm, Mon- Sat. the same as past years.
We are excited about welcoming a new baby. Erika was born Thursday evening. She is a big baby (9 lbs 11 oz). We have 8 children now. Phillip is the oldest at 10 years. Emma turned 2 this winter and Brenda is 15 months old. Our house is wonderfully full of little children. Daniel
