Savannah, GA:  Bee Pollen

Tips from the Hive; Bee Pollen
I have been eating bee pollen in my shakes every morning for several years. It is a very unique and extraordinary food that can enhance all bodily systems.
Dr Cousens says: " Bee Pollen contains 18 vitamins, carotene, 56 minerals, all 22 essential amino acids, over 5000 enzymes, polysaccharides and simple sugars, nucleic acids and 15% lecithin (different from soy lecithin) that is especially good for brain development .
Research done by doctors from France, Italy and Russia, shows the bee pollen is one of the richest sources of bioavailable protein in nature.
Did you know that gram for gram, bee pollen contains more protein than cheese, eggs and meat? With 96 different nutrients including every nutrient known that your body needs, bee pollen might just be the most complete superfood in nature. Civilizations from around the globe have praised bee pollen as a sacred source of rejuvenation, longevity, energy and stamina.
This is an alkaline food that is considered by many to be one of the most complete food sources found in nature. Bee pollen is loaded with antioxidants, it is a hormonal booster and increases strength, endurance, energy and speed. It reduces the presence of histamine, thus ameliorating many allergies. It is the most powerful ojas building food as it is the concentrated semen of the plant world. For all these reasons, this superfood was known to the ancient Greeks as “the food of the gods”.
Dr Cousens recommends 1-3 tbsp per day
I recommend starting slow with 1 tsp a day and working up to 1 Tbsp a day (should take about a week for your body to accept this new superfood protein.)

Champaign, OH:  Love Train

People all over the world,
Join hands, start a love train, love train…
The O’Jays – Love Train

So, the market certainly has become a little Love Train of sorts! Thank you, so much, to all of you, who email, message, chat with us, give us compliments. It is because of your continued excitement, support, laughter, and love, that we have such fun bringing you the local love!!

As I was groovin’ the market, tonight, and chatting with both vendors and customers, I just felt such a rush of feelings! Pride, excitement, love…it’s what I pour into this little local market of goodness. Watching each of the vendors coming in, I could tell that they all feel it, too! The same with each customer!

This market is like the little market that could. The little train that never gave up. We just kept going, quietly, determined, full of spark!! We knew that one day, through all of our hard work, we would reach the next part of the tracks. But, we still have more destinations and goals to meet. We want to continue this little Love Train journey that our market takes us on, each week.

Before I open the market, I wanted to say just a few reminders…

*If you place an order…make sure you receive a confirmation!!!! If you don’t receive one, email me!!!

*Our first winner of the Market of Love playlist, tonight, was Jodi Compton!! She was so excited that she screamed in the lobby!!

*A new drawing will be held for another winner of the Market of Love playlist!! Get your order in to be the next in line!

*Humberto Nieto (aka Laura) won the Cosmic Coupon Of Love!!

So, with that, I bring to you another opening of another market week! We are here for you, bringing you the love, making the goodness all happen, enjoying our local Love Train…

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Farmer At Your Door:  No market this year, Options!

I’m sorry to say that there will be no Farmer At Your Door this year. But you have options! In my effort to keep you fed and happy,. Tracys Farm Bus is an awesome option. She appears in many places with local, healthy product. She also delivers. I am also in touch with many growers myself. If you need items, let me know. There are many ways to get you those items. I would like to thank all of you for remaining wonderful customers and great local businesses. This is not the end all your food options this could be just the beginning of your awareness of our local growers and businesses. Please email me at bogie3513@msn.com if you need anything, well not anything, maybe a little lettuce, turkey, a radish, a loaf of bread, not just anything. I would love to keep in touch with all of you.if you need further information on how to get ahold of Tracy, I would be more than happy to let you know. Merry

Market News

HORTON FARMS:
You read it right. LOCALLY GROWN fresh rhubarb. Don’t ever tell Papa Horton “you can’t grow it here” because he’ll prove otherwise, and has done so in a magnificent way. It’s taken him ten years to figure it out and to our knowledge he is the first person to grow it successfully this far south.

If you’re not familiar with rhubarb, google it to see all the wonderful things you can do with this amazing “fruit”. Please know this this variety is not the popular red variety, but is green and looks a bit like celery.

Farm to Table Recipes

PULLED PORK SANDWICH
Ingredients
 * 1 onion, chopped
  6 garlic cloves, peeled
 * 1 pickled jalapeño pepper, seeded and chopped
2 teaspoons of Chipotle chile powder
  1 Tbsp tomato paste
  2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  3/4 cup distilled white vinegar

1 teaspoon paprika
  1/3 cup ketchup
  2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  1/4 cup light brown sugar
  1 bay leaf
  Salt
 * 3 lbs of pork butt shoulder roast, trimmed of excess fat
  Hamburger buns
Notes / Directions
1. Purée all of the sauce ingredients (everything except the bay leaf, the pork and the buns) in a blender until smooth. If you have extra time, marinate the pork in the sauce overnight or for several hours before cooking.

2. Put sauce, bay leaf, and pork into a large pot and add 1 quart of water. Bring mixture to a boil and simmer, covered, turning frequently, for 2 hours or until the meat pulls apart easily with a fork.

3. Remove from heat and cool pork in the sauce. When cool enough to touch, remove the pork from the sauce and shred into small pieces. Set aside.

4. Put the sauce back on the stove and bring it to a low boil. Let the sauce boil down until it has been reduced by two thirds. Add the pork back to the sauce. Salt to taste. Remove bay leaf before serving. Serve hot over open-face hamburger buns.

Gwinnett Locally Grown:  MARKET IS OPEN FOR ORDERING NOW!

The Market is open Thursday Noon-ish – Monday 9 a.m. After that, ordering is disabled. Pick up your order Tuesday 4:30-6:30 p.m. ONLY, at Rancho Alegre Farm at 2225 Givens Road, Dacula, GA 30019. New to The Market? Learn about how it works here.

MARKET NEWS!
As I write this, Russell is planning to make Mozzarella and Bococinni
tomorrow to replenish his inventory from last week’s accident, so it is listed on market as available this week. He does not have butter however, so for those of you who are “hoarding” it like I am, it’s time to dig into our personal stashes in our freezer!

I have had some inquiries about how to order milk. It is listed under Locally Grown -> Dairy -> Raw Pet Milk. For those of you new to raw milk, it can only be sold in the state of Georgia as “For Pet Consumption Only.” This state required label has nothing to do with the quality.

FARMER PROFILE
I have asked our farmers to let me know when they are interviewed or profiled in a magazine, newspaper or on a website, or have a website of their own, so I can share the information with you and we can all learn more about the farmers we support. Lisa from Bo & Lisa’s Lil Patch sent me the link to information about her/their farm. You can read it here. Some of our farmers also have FaceBook pages, so as I collect the links, I will share them here.

Lisa’s page is doubly cool because it’s the Certified Naturally Grown website, which also gives us information about the CNG program. This is basically a grass-roots program that uses the same rules as the government-run Certified Organic program, but with much less paperwork to contend with. Paper trails for farmers (or for any self-employed person really) are one of the many things I refer to as a “time-sucker” – another thing (usually needed but not necessarily showing a black & white return for the time spent) that stretches the work-day far beyond daylight hours. I personally fully support the CNG program.

Have a wonderful week!
