Carolina Foothills, SC:  Summer Veggies Increase

http://carolinafoothills.locallygrown.net/market

“The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.”

Wendell Berry,
The Unsettling of America: Culture and Agriculture

This is why our Locally Grown Market exists.
Our Farmers here , in using natural and sustainable growing practices, increase the health of our soils and our bodies. It strengthens our local communities . Know exactly where your food comes from. Get to know your Farmers and Producers.

Summer Veggies Increase

French Filet and Provider Green Beans, Summer Squashes, Onions, Carrots, early Peppers and Tomatoes. Just to name a few.

Lots of assorted Green Foods to choose from as well!

The Giggle Farm.
GMO -Free Rabbit Meat
I ordered the weight of my choice exquisite GMO Free Rabbit Meat. I cut it into smaller pieces and marinated it overnight in a lemon ginger garlic scape sauce I concocted and put it on the grill. Wow! Very good! And no it doesn’t taste like chicken. It has a mild flavor only rabbits have. You must try it! And these farmers are Awesome!

Remember we open this evening after 8 pm. We have several farmers on vacation and some of us will add more products after our Friday Markets.

We have a new pick up spot for our Pickens /Easley folks at the YMCA Pickens on Tuesdays 4:15-6:15. So don’t hesitate to Order!

Eat well!

A heartfelt thank you for all the condolences this week. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for the inconvenience of having to close the market so suddenly. We are doing well and finding our new ‘normal’. It is never easy to say goodbye but he was ready – physically, spiritually, emotionally.

There are so many yummy foods to choose from this week. We have loads of vegetables coming in. salad blends, squash, kale, cabbages and more. The freezers are full of delicious beef, pork and chicken just ready for your favorite recipe.

We still have the cheeses in the fridge for you to try on Wednesday. I look forward to getting feedback on how to proceed with ordering. We can order a pound, 2.5, 5 or 10 pound blocks.

Thank you for letting us grow for you!
Blessings,
Mary Beth Sellars

Champaign, OH:  Days Like This

Oh, my mama told me, “There’ll be days like this”…(Van Morrison-Days Like This)

You know how you groove along, everything perfectly planned, executed, accomplished, organized? Well, you know when you THINK it’s all going to play out like that and then all you get is a string of a comedy of errors? One more thing gone wrong? And, it becomes so comical that you can’t even get flustered or upset or irritated? When all you can do is just laugh and go with it? When you are thankful that as things keep unfolding, you have an amazing sense of humor, can operate under pressure and then adopt the attitude that it is what it is?

Well, that would be our market, tonight..lol. It was one mishap after another from the time I walked through the door of the YMCA right on up until I walked out of the door. Nothing earth shattering and nothing was ruined but just incident after incident. Luckily, I run the market with the help of my two assistants and fortunately, we were able to laugh, all night, and keep the pace.

Luckily, this market has the best customers in the world who just went with the flow, waited around and chatted. Shared stories, gave compliments, and made the whole scene that much lighter.

We have a wonderful staff and leadership at the YMCA who, yep, you guessed…have a great sense of humor, too. It was a night that all you could do was smile, laugh, and show everyone a great deal of love with a great dose of smiles.

So, as I open this market, I also put this day to rest. Thank you for one of our best market in sales, this past week! Thank you for your continued support in local love. Thank you for all of the kind compliments on this blog, my sense of humor, the Market Love playlist contest, and your overall satisfaction for what we bring to you, each week!

A few announcements!

*Yes, another week, another chance to win a Market Love playlist cd!

*Now that we are celebrating the summer months, our evenings are getting longer. Your market manager and assistants have decided to extend market closing time on Tuesdays until 10pm!!!! You can have your summer fun but still get your orders in on time!

*We say goodbye to Beth and her asparagus…so sad!! Thank you, Beth, for keeping us in the best asparagus during the season! We look forward to next asparagus season, already!

*This could be the last week for The Berry Patch’s strawberries!!! These seasons are so short!!!

*Garlic Scapes…get them now!!!! They have a short span of time are a delicacy in the garlic world…so good and yet are not here for long!

*As we say goodbye to some of the seasonal produce, we will welcome other vendors with more and more produce as we progress into the season!

The market will now open, we love you for being so loyal, and we thank you for understanding that there will be days like this…

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

THANK YOU Heather, Diana, Marie, Michelle and Adrienne for volunteering on Tuesday!!! Moving to our new location went well but I discovered that I desperately need volunteers. Thank you to those that have already signed up!! I can’t believe the month of June is almost filled up!

The July calendar is posted and we need volunteers!

If you are interested in volunteering, I have created a volunteer sign up on Signup Genius. I am asking for volunteers to sign up for 1 hour shifts from 2p to 6:45pm. No packing is involved just need someone to be there to assist other members. You are welcome to bring your kids as long as they are supervised. Here is the link to the sign up http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A44AEA623A7FA7-volunteer

The link is also posted on the About page on our website.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Reminder: Pick Up Entrance & Time Change

We are still working out all the kinks and logistics of being in a new space. To make things go a little smoother, we are asking that you come to the back entrances instead of the front door.

We will have a SIDE ENTRANCE open and the DOCK will always be open. The only time the side entrance will be closed is if it is raining.

Starting this Tuesday please only USE SIDE ENTRANCE AND DOCK to pick up your items.

Also, I pick up my daughter from practice right at 7pm so we need to have the warehouse locked up by 6:45pm. Until further notice PICK UP WILL NOW END AT 6:45PM.

Butter is in!

If you pre-ordered grass fed butter it will be available for pick up this Tuesday! The butter will be in coolers since we do not have enough fridge space to hold 144 lbs of butter and the milk… Look for your name on the coolers on Tuesday.

Group Buys are exempt from our “No show, will Donate” policy so your butter will NOT be donated if you can’t pick up. If you already know you won’t be able to pick your butter on Tuesday, please drop me a note and I’ll keep it for you until you can pick up.

If you missed out on the grass fed group buy order, we do an order every 3 months.
