FRIG DONATION NEEDED:
We’re looking for a donation of a working, full size refrigerator for our on-line market pick-up location downtown. If you’ve got an one extra sitting around, we’d really appreciate it, and we can certainly come get it, too. Contact kim@augustalocallygrown.org.

MARKET INTERNS AND MARKET MANAGERS:
It’s that time of year when we begin to say goodbye to some wonderful folks and start training some wonderful new ones. Here’s what’s in the works:

OUTGOING:

  • Hugs to Sandi Johnson who recently transitioned from her role as ALG On-Line Downtown Market Manager to focus more on her store.
  • Hugs to Meghann McElroy who recently transitioned from the ALG On-Line Riverwood Market Manager position and will fill-in at the AJCC location as needed.
  • Hugs to Leslie Carson who is transitioning away from her role as Market Manager at the Evans Towne Farmers Market to focus on her soap business.
  • Hugs to our interns who will soon be leaving for college: Amy’s going to the University of Puget Sound; Jackson’s going to UGA; Briaunna and Daniel are going to GRU; Aarish is going to Brown University; Tony has joined the U.S. Army and ships off in September.
    INCOMING:
  • Welcome Maggie Hines who will take over as Market Manager at the Evans Towne Farmers Market and help with the Veggie Truck Farmers Market this summer.
  • Welcome to new interns Russell, Erin and Hannah who have been working hard at the Evans Towne Farmers Market this summer.
  • Welcome to new intern Daniel (a second Daniel!) who has been helping with the Veggie Truck Farmers Market.
  • Welcome to new interns Priscilla and Adolfo who are assigned to our AJCC market pick-up location.
    STAYING ON:
So so grateful to these interns who are staying on with us for the fall semester and providing some much-needed continuity and experience:
  • Tabias at the ALG Downtown Market.
  • Kyong at the Evans Towne Farmers Market.
  • Daniel has transitioned from his long stint as “milk man” at our AJCC location to help run our ALG Downtown location.

See you all at the markets on Tuesdays and Thursdays!

Cheers!
Kim

See you on the street!

Searcy, AR:  Sweet Corn

At Saturday’s Farmers Market, sweet corn will be available from Albion Natural Foods. Also a few farmers have ripe tomatoes available while supplies last.

Joyful Noise Acres Farm:  The JNA Farm Market is open for ordering.

I opened the front door to let the cat in and just had to stand there and stop; inhale, close my eyes, inhale again then open my eyes to all that is around me. How beautiful to stop and take in what what has been given to us to enjoy. Stop today and enjoy – this life is fleeting but oh, so full of wonder.

We have another week of wonderful foods to choose from. Get out the recipe books and get creative or pull out the standards, either way, you will have a wonderful meal.

Nancy at Harvest Meadows is bringing in her beautiful lettuce blends. The Gourmet blend has added flowers and herbs. It is a piece of edible art and the fresh flavors just burst on your palate. This blend just needs a light dressing and it is ready for the table. Her salad blends are washed and ready to eat from the bag and they last for several weeks without wilting if you leave a bag in the back of the refrigerator and forget it is there.

The Cucumber Mango Salad from Farm Fresh Foods was outstanding last week. Everything Amy makes is fresh, flavor filled, and so good for you. She makes it easy to ‘eat your vegetables’. I am trying combinations I would never make like Carrot Hummus, so sweet and fresh, no crackers needed, spoon please. She grows many of the vegetables and herbs she uses. How awesome if that?
Diabetic Friendly Baking will be on vacation next week. She will have very limited offerings that will be posted later Saturday.

Fourth of July is this Friday, are you ready to fire up the grill? Beer can chicken, ribs, burgers, steaks? The freezer is loaded with pasture raised meats that will suit any recipe.

Joyful Noise Acres Farm will be processing chickens again this week. We are taking them to the USDA processor and coming home with cuts, lots of cuts. We will have boneless, skinless breast meat, thighs, leg quarters, drumsticks, bone in breasts and fresh whole birds. These will not get here until late Wednesday. Because many of you are waiting for cuts, you may pick up your orders on Thursday to get the fresh chicken also. Just make a note when closing out your order that you want to pick up on Thursday. PIck up hours will be 10-12 or 3-5. If I am not outside, ring the doorbell when you get here.

We are blessed with amazing growers and artisans producing the freshest, most nutrient dense foods we can find locally. Thank you for supporting them. Farming is hard work, making a living from the dirt is a passion. You, the consumer, reap the benefit of the harvest.

Blessings,
Mary Beth
