Gwinnett Locally Grown:  MARKET NEWS: POUND CAKE IS BACK & VEGGIE, HERBS & FRUIT UPDATES

The Market is open Thursday Noon – Monday 9:00 a.m. After that, ordering is disabled until Thursday noon-ish. Pick up your order Tuesday 4:30-6:30 p.m. only at Rancho Alegre Farm at 2225 Givens Road, Dacula, GA 30019. New to The Market? Learn about how it works here.

MARKET NEWS
If you ordered through market a few weeks ago when we were giving out samples of pound cake, and had some on hand to sell, you will be ultra-pleased to find that we will have them again as a “shelf” item (meaning available as an add-on item during pick-up but not listed on the market website.) Ellen has expanded her offerings in time for the Fourth of July. These freeze exceptionally well, I’ve been told; sadly, I gobble mine down (with a little help from my husband) before any intended party date ever arrives. These are “real” pound cakes with real butter and free-range eggs from her farm. Decadent is hardly an apt word (just my humble opinion, lol!)

Traditional: (Large loaves $12.00)
Classic Vanilla
Lavender Vanilla
Salted Caramel
Lemon and Toasted Coconut

Gluten-Free (Baby Cake size – feeds 2-4 price $8.00)
Classic Vanilla
Salted Caramel

For those of you who are new to our market, we ocassionally have items for sale at pick-up that aren’t listed on the website. The purchase can be added to your order, even if you paid online.

VEGGIE & HERB NEWS
We are able to offer lettuces, radishes and kale further into the season than other markets because Leah Lake Farm is located up in the mountains so they have a slightly cooler growing season. (My apologies in my conversations where I said they are located in South Carolina – they are in North Carolina. Lettuce “bolts” or starts to form seed heads when it gets hot, so I don’t know how much longer lettuce will be available. Visit their website here.

Lisa from Bo & Lisa’s Lil’ Patch is starting to have some herbs, veggies and fruits coming on, but it may be a couple weeks before they have ample supplies of blackberries, beans, tomatoes and beets. Their blueberries are very happy and producing well and haven’t even needed organic pest control this year! This may be the last week they have garlic scapes available…

Back River Farm has rejoined us for the season and has summer squash, two kinds of turnips, arugula and red potatoes. If you are using the turnips for their greens, I suggest picking your order up as close to 4:30 as possible because it is supposed to be 95 degrees Tuesday. I’m thinking I’m not going to be the only thing in the store wilting!!!

Rancho Alegre has lemon balm, parsley and spearmint on the market, and will probably have additional herbs next week.

Duck eggs: Sally from Treffynnon Farm is teaching this summer so she won’t be able to deliver more duck eggs. We only have two cartons of the half-dozen duck eggs left. Lisa from Bo & Lisa’s may have duck eggs later, but the weather may get too hot, so we’re not sure yet. Sally’s eggs are an add-on and not listed on market, so first-come, first serve.

Enjoy your shopping! Be sure to pick up brochures about our market when you come Tuesday to share with your friends, family, co-workers, and random people on the street :-)

If you are interested in Goat’s Milk and can pick up any day but Tuesday, contact Nik The Goat Guy at 404-542-0981. Goats have to be milked every day and a week-end pick-up would be lovely. Please contact him first though, we can’t accommodate walk-ins due to hosting private events almost every week-end!

Please contact grow@ranchoalegrefarm.com for questions pertaining to Market or Raw Milk. It is very difficult to return phone calls. Remember to interact with us on Facebook and follow us on Meetup to get notification on all our wonderful events and news.

Group Buy

GROUP BUY – Mountain Valley Farm Grass-fed Butter http://grassfedgeorgia.com/
Pre-order online this week. I will pick up our orders from the farm the following week. Pick up will be July 5th. A naturally rich grass fed butter made from low temp pasteurized cream from pastured cows at Mountain Valley Farm in Elijay, Ga. The butterfat does not separate into solids and “water” as it does in commercially made butter. You will definitely notice the difference, especially in the flavor. Mountain Valley cream is turned into delicious butter by Happy Cow Creamery in South Carolina.

PICK UP LOCATION
Building 106, Colony Park Dr. in the Basement of Suite 100, Cumming, GA 30040. Pick up every Saturday between 10-12pm.
